2003 - Mexico - Globalisation and the Poor

In 2001, at our consultation in England, we affirmed a common bond and vision in Integral Mission. In September 2003, we followed up on this theme by addressing the twin themes of

  • Globalisation that is more than ever affecting the poor for good or ill, and
  • Advocacy that is a critical part of any biblical response to needs of the poor

About 185 leaders from nearly 50 countries to examine and understand the negative impact of globalisation on poor and oppressed communities. The 5 day consultation programme provided a mix of practical workshops, skills training, plenary sessions, forums and worship. There were 6 keynote addresses:

The Impact of Globalisation on the Poor - Rene Padilla, Argentina
Globalisation and Culture - Melba Maggay, Philippines
The Prophetic Call - Jim Wallis, USA
Global Economics and Poverty - Lilia Solano Congora, Colombia
Globalisation and a Biblical World View- Vinoth Ramachandra, Sri Lanka
Globalisation and the Information Revolution - Simon Batchelor, UK

These and other papers from the consultation are published in the Documents section below.

Music and song also communicated the plight of the poor very powerfully - and will be an enduring memory for those present.
